SGL is hiring a Mechanical and Composites expert at the
company's headquarters in Ottawa for a six-month period
with possible extension and/or permanent employment. The
Mechanical Manufacturing and Composite Material Specialist
will use their advanced experience and excellent
communication skills to oversee and train other
technicians in composite work.
Responsibilities
- Provide training to assigned technicians/fabricators
in the field of composite structures fabrication;
- Provide feedback on conceptual designs;
- Devise, implement, and oversee tests required to
demonstrate compliance with design standards and
generation/feedback of applicable drawings and reports;
- Manage Work Orders for any parts requiring
certification compliance within the Aircraft Maintenance
department;
- Direct, organize, and monitor the work of
technicians/fabricators in addition to setting
priorities on the work assigned;
- Provide status reports on projects to the Aircraft
Maintenance department and aeronautical engineer(s), as
required;
- Understand, comply with, and promote all company
safety precautions and policies, including reporting
hazards and incidents encountered during daily
operations;
- Attend and complete training courses and/or company
examinations, as required;
- Maintain a high level of technical and operational
knowledge through direct engagement with colleagues and
personal development;
- Maintain good records and documentation of all
designs, reports, and tests as well as, resulting
certification data and correspondence with regulatory
authorities;
- Maintain project schedules and design goals; and
- Perform other duties as assigned to ensure completion
of projects within deadlines.
Qualifications and Experience
- Postsecondary education in a related field;
- Minimum of five (5) years relevant experience in
composite manufacturing and assemblies;
- Specific composite experience with wet layups;
- Valid welding certification is an asset;
- Structures AME licence is an asset;
- Familiarity with CAD principles and techniques for
technical drawings;
- Experience with geophysical survey equipment is an
asset;
- Demonstrated project management and organization
experience as required to direct fabricators and/or
technicians in related projects;
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills;
- Ability to train and mentor;
- Demonstrated ability to liaise with various
stakeholders such as, suppliers, vendors, aircraft
certification authorities, and other employees;
- Excellent report writing skills; and
- Ability to establish priorities and multitask in a
fast-paced environment.
