Aviation Administrator (1-year parental/maternity leave coverage)
Location: Ottawa, Ontario

Responsibilities of the Position

  • Maintenance of pilot training records;
  • Logistics planning;
  • Preparation of memoranda and other documentation for distribution to aviation staff;
  • Preparation of amendments to operations manuals and training manuals;
  • Aircrew scheduling;
  • Support deployed pilots and other field crew members with logistics and documentation assistance;

Required Qualifications of the Applicant
  • Familiar with all operational, maintenance, technical, and regulatory aspects of the aviation department as is related to the acquisition of geophysical data;
  • Competent and comfortable in the use of MS Office programs (Word, PowerPoint, Access and Excel);
  • Proficient in communicating via email and telephone with employees, vendors and regulatory authorities; and
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.

Software Quality Control Coordinator
Location: Ottawa, Ontario

SGL is currently seeking a Software Quality Control Coordinator to work with the data acquisition group. You will be the primary link between developers, technicians, geophysicists, and field operators to design and lead the implementation of a best practices quality control and testing framework for the acquisition software.

Responsibilities of the Position

  • Use system analysis methodologies to create and maintain documentation for existing and future functional requirements;
  • Generate, implement, and maintain test plans;
  • Primary lead for executing operational tests including data processing and analysis;
  • Effectively analyze, and report test results;
  • Organize both the testing team and the test lab equipment;
  • Primary lead to identify, clearly document, and validate the resolution of software defects ensuring a robust, high quality product;
  • Establish product acceptance and performance criteria by working directly with the operation, maintenance, and development teams; and
  • Strive to continually improve the software quality control process by understanding and applying new quality control techniques as they are developed.

Required Qualifications of the Applicant
  • 3-5 years of experience in a software quality control position designing test practices;
  • Demonstrated experience in implementing software quality control practices and industry standard software development methodologies;
  • Ability to independently research and assemble system requirements by analyzing existing practices and processes;
  • User interaction/usability analysis experience a plus;
  • Experience operating precision data acquisition hardware an asset; and
  • Excellent verbal and written communications with proven documentation skills.

Pilots - Fixed Wing
Location: Ottawa, Ontario/various locations globally

SGL requires fixed wing captains and first officers for airborne geophysical survey operations worldwide.

Responsibilities of the Position

  • Responsible for the operation and safety of the aircraft he/she commands and for all those on board during the flight
  • Assist in monitoring on-board geophysical equipment
  • Complete pre-flight inspections and post flight reports
  • Liaise with foreign aviation authorities
  • For each flight, become familiar with:
    • the planned route/flight plan
    • the aerodromes planned for normal and emergency use
    • the survey navigation equipment and ensure that it is in working order

  • Ensure the following has been met:
    • the flight as planned can be made safely
    • the aircraft equipment including emergency, survival and safety equipment is installed

Required Qualifications of the Applicant
  • A valid commercial pilot's license with group 1 instrument rating
  • A valid passport or the ability to obtain a valid passport, mandatory
  • Must be willing to travel to our global survey sites
  • Low level survey experience an asset
  • International flying experience an asset
  • Experience on the Cessna Caravan and multi-engine aircraft is preferred
  • Additional languages an asset
  • Must have or have the ability to obtain transportation security clearance (restricted area pass)

Pilots - Helicopter

Aircraft Maintenance Engineers (AME)
Location: Ottawa, Ontario/various locations globally

SGL requires AMEs in the company's Ottawa headquarters and at field sites around the world.  The fleet includes Cessna Caravans, several piston twin aircraft, and an AS350 B3 helicopter.

Responsibilities of the Position
  • Maintain company aircraft at Ottawa headquarters and field locations
  • Carry out maintenance tasks as directed in accordance with the Maintenance Policy Manual and Transport Canada regulations, within the scope of their license, capabilities and authority
  • Properly record and report defects discovered while performing maintenance on any aircraft or component
  • Properly record parts used during maintenance and correctly record maintenance in technical records and log books including the completion of parts issue and additional work sheets
  • Receive and review aircraft status sheets to ensure there are instructions and parts necessary to support the operations
  • Generate and provide reports on the state of field maintenance and aircraft status
  • Confer with the maintenance manager(s) and field crew chief to identify aircraft, shop and field maintenance issues and to discuss maintenance requirements and problems
  • Report unserviceable maintenance equipment and material deficiencies to the maintenance manager or field crew chief
  • Assist as required in the timely completion of company, customer and regulatory audits
  • Ensure that safety precautions are observed both by themselves and by apprentices and learner mechanics
Required Qualifications of the Applicant
  • Valid passport
  • Willingness to travel for extended periods
  • Possess a current and valid Canadian AME license (M1 minimum)

Apprentice Aircraft Maintenance Engineers
Location: Ottawa, Ontario/various locations globally

SGL requires apprentice AMEs in the company's Ottawa headquarters and at field sites around the world.  Their primary function is to assist the AME's and maintenance managers in the performance of their duties.   An apprentice is expected to show the willingness and aptitude to learn.   They will be expected to show good aircraft maintenance practices and knowledge.

Responsibilities of the Position
  • Complete work in accordance with applicable standards of airworthiness and the company AMO MPM
  • Immediately report to direct supervisor any items that may affect the airworthiness of a component or aircraft upon which work is being carried out on, and ensure the defect is properly addressed
  • Support company aircraft and operations by being available for limited field assignments
  • Maintain a personal logbook, as issued and approved by Transport Canada
  • Observe all company safety precautions and policies
  • As necessary attend training courses and complete required training or company examinations
  • Perform other duties as determined by the director of aircraft maintenance or maintenance manager(s)

Geophysicists
